Know Your Emissions. Plan Your Path to Net Zero.
You cannot reduce what you have not measured. A robust carbon footprint assessment is the essential first step in any credible net zero strategy — giving you an accurate picture of where your emissions come from, which are largest, and where the most impactful reductions are possible.
What Is a Carbon Footprint Assessment?
A carbon footprint assessment measures the total greenhouse gas emissions associated with your business activities, expressed in tonnes of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e). It covers three categories, known as scopes:
Scope 1 — Direct Emissions
Emissions from sources your business owns or controls directly, including fuel burned by company vehicles, natural gas and other fuels used in your facilities, and fugitive emissions from refrigerants and industrial processes.
Scope 2 — Indirect Energy Emissions
Emissions associated with the electricity and heat your business purchases and consumes. These are indirect because the emissions occur at the power station, not at your site, but they are attributable to your demand.
Scope 3 — Value Chain Emissions
All other indirect emissions in your upstream and downstream value chain. For most businesses, Scope 3 is the largest category, including purchased goods and services, business travel, employee commuting, freight and logistics, and waste disposal.
What Is Included in a Nex-Zero Assessment
Our assessment process is aligned with recognised international standards, including the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and ISO 14064 & 14068. We work with your team to:
-
Collect and validate emissions data across all relevant sources — energy bills, fuel records, travel data, supplier information
-
Calculate emissions using the latest conversion factors and recognised methodology
-
Produce a verified carbon inventory covering Scope 1, 2, and full Scope 3 categories
-
Identify your largest emission sources and highlight where reduction effort will have the greatest impact
-
Provide an audit-ready report suitable for regulatory reporting and customer disclosure
-
Set the foundation for your reduction roadmap with practical guidance on where to prioritise
When Do You Need a Carbon Footprint Assessment?
-
You are beginning your sustainability journey and need to understand your baseline
-
You must produce a Carbon Reduction Plan (for UK Government procurement under PPN 06/21)
-
You must comply with Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR)
-
You are preparing to set science-based targets (SBTi)
-
You are responding to customer or investor requests for emissions data
-
You want to understand where to focus reduction investment for maximum impactGetting Started
We typically begin with a short onboarding call to understand your business, your sector, and your reporting requirements. We then outline the data we need, manage the collection process, and deliver your completed assessment within an agreed timeframe.
